Highlights
EPA201, EPA202, EPA203, EPA204 and EPA225 are located in the Georgina Basin, of Devonian to Neoproterozoic age.
Most of these tenements are located to the north and EP221 is immediately south of EP222, and are relatively unexplored.
The Ryder Scott and USEIA assessments are based largely on previous activities on adjacent tenements, including the previously described activities of Statoil and Petrofrontier.
Highlights
EP222 is located in the southern Georgina Basin, of Devonian to Neoproterozoic age. Unexplored, it offers significant potential for oil and wet gas accumulation.
Ryder Scott has previously estimated about 26 billion barrels of unrisked prospective resources as a best (P50) case for the portion of the Basin, immediately to the north of EP222. The US Energy Information Agency has also indicated total risked wet and dry shale gas in place at 67 trillion cubic feet.
Previous activities on adjacent tenements include:
- Statoil and Petrofrontier completed 304km of 2D seismic in 2013.
- Statoil and Petrofrontier drilled 5 vertical wells in 2014.
AGO plans to undertake further seismic analysis and drilling across the next 5 years.
Wiso Oil P/L Georgina Basin acreage
Georgina Basin
- Un-metamorphosed Cryogenian to Devonian sediments
- Conventional and unconventional potential
- Active exploration hotspot with industry players including Total, Statoil, PetroFrontier, Central Petroleum
- No wells or seismic in Wiso Oil Pty Ltd’s acreage but numerous oil and gas indications in Queensland and NT
- Three wells completed in the Georgina Basin in 2012 (by Petrofrontier) with gas flows and oil fluorescence
- Mid Cambrian Arthur Creek formation: live oil stains and pyritic carbonaceous black ‘hot’ shale source rock, which overlies;
- Mid Cambrian Thorntonia Limestone: fossil oil columns
